This sculpture was created as a gift. It is based on a statue see on a popular TV show from the seventies. These types of statues were very popular at the time, and have become popular again recently. After searching for a long time, I found that anything considered vintage is extremely expensive, so I decided to create one in a smaller size. Here is a restored original statue;
After searching for images of this type of statue, I had enough to create an accurate representation of the original. I am using Epoxy Sculpt to create the sculpture because of it’s stronger and carve-a-bility and it takes paint well.
I printed out my images to size and using twisted wire, I created and armature and anchored it in the base.
Roughing out the form.
Lots of refining and sculpting ahead.
After refining the body, I add the saddle and blanket.
After the saddle & blanket its time to add the details, the various straps, bridal and the tassels.
Time to refine the bridle and add the pitting that is on the original statue.
Now that the basics are complete, the pitting that is on original statue is added.
Now that the details are complete, I will add the black & white base colors and the color washes that duplicate the glazing on the original statue.
