This is the master pattern for a sterling silver key fob of the ‘Tumbler’ from ‘Batman Begins’. This piece was created for Noble Collections. It was another challenge and a lot of fun. The completed pattern is just over 1.5″ in length.
Although this vehicle is well known now, at the time I created this master, it was not shown to the general public yet. I had a set of blue prints and some set photography of the actual vehicle and a mock-up of a die cast prototype to use to create this master. This is an extremely complicated design. You can see all of the many facets and angles that make up the body panels. Its like a jet fighter with in an armored car.
The image below shows the unique front wheel arrangement and the tandem rear wheels. The wheels were designed the be able to spin in the final production piece. For the rear wheels, I turned and carved a single tire, then had that tire rubber molded to make the full set for the pattern. The front tires were created in the same manner. The large steel pins are in place so the manufacturer can know the center of the pivot point of the front wheels. There is a pin for the rear wheels as well.
In all, five parts make up the final pattern; the main body, two front wheels and rear wheels. The main body was created using a combination of Ren-board, styrene plastic and wax.
